Bexhill Light Operatic and Dramatic Society are now adding the final touches to their production of the hit 80’s musical comedy, ‘The Wedding Singer’.
Directed by Lee Lyons, the show tells the story of Robbie Hart, New Jersey's favourite wedding singer, who gets dumped at the altar by his fiance, Linda. Sweet-natured waitress, Julia, tries to help him recover from his heartbreak, but has troubles of her own, in the form of her yuppie boyfriend Glen. Friends, family and a smattering of dodgy celebrity lookalikes assist the pair along the way - but will Robbie and Julia find true happiness...?
The cast of around 30 began rehearsals in July and performances will take place at the Izzard Theatre, Bexhill during half term. It's the first time that 'The Wedding Singer' has been performed by an adult cast in the local area - and the show features an original 80s-style score as well as two well-known songs from the movie.
BLODS Chairman, Ian Watkins, told the Observer, "We're really excited to have secured the rights to this fantastic show. Both the production team and cast are working very hard to make sure Bexhill gets behind this production and we look forward to welcoming lots of new faces to the Izzard in a couple of weeks’ time.
We’ve also declared our opening night, “Wedding Dress Wednesday” and are encouraging members of the audience to turn up wearing a wedding dress in exchange for a free glass of bubbly on arrival. We think it will help set the tone for the run and hope that it’ll give local brides the opportunity to enjoy an entertaining evening wearing their wedding dresses again!”
'The Wedding Singer' will be performed at the Izzard Theatre, Penland Road from Oct 30th - Nov 2nd 2019. Tickets start at £8 from 07757 946147 or online at blods.co.uk
NOTE: the show contains adult themes and some strong language.
