In 1952 Madame Greta Cook became the Founder and Musical Director of the new Teesside Amateur Operatic Society. We performed for three years in St John's Hall before moving into the newly built Middlesbrough Little Theatre (now called Middlesbrough Theatre).

The original intentions were to confine ourselves to Gilbert & Sullivan, but after many years it was decided to broaden our canvas. More recently the Society has performed a selection of musical shows from the famous Operettas such as "Die Fledermaus” and "Merry Widow" .and the very popular "My Fair Lady". Some of the American Musicals performed were "South Pacific", "Carousel" and "Oklahoma"

In 2007 we changed our title to Teesside Musical Theatre Company to hopefully attract younger members. This has proved very successful, as many of those same youngsters have gone on to performing arts colleges, where they are hoping to further their careers.

Recently we have staged "West Side Story", "Footloose", the wonderful "La Cage Aux Folles”,  “Me and My Girl”, "The Sound of Music", "The Producers" and "Carousel".
